Freezing Apple Pie Filling

It’s APPLE season in this area…YAY!  I LOVE all the deliciousness of this time of year!!

I’ve already started making some yummies and wanted to share a little trick with you that I’ve found to be helpful.

I made my own apple pie filling.  It’s nothing fancy or special.  I used a recipe from Allrecipes and it’s very good.  But the little trick I wanted to share with you is the way I freeze my Apple Pie filling.
After my filling has cooled adequately, I pour it into freezer bags.

Then I place the freezer bags in my pie pans and spread them out in the pan.
I place them in the freezer in the pan until they are completely frozen.

Then I take them out of the pie pan and stack them.

When I want to bake a pie, I just cut the freezer bag off the filling and place it in the pie crust…ready to bake.
Pretty cool, huh?  It’s a simple little trick, but a time saver while baking.  Do you have any apple pie tips??

Blessings,

Awesome idea; do you have something in between those stackable frozen pies?

No, I haven’t put anything between them. Because of the irregularities of the filling, they don’t seem to stick together.

my mom used to do this, but she never cooked the filling. In the fall we would pick so many apples, then spend the next day peeling and cutting and freezing. Great idea to so it in the pan!

How long does it take to bake and do you find it takes longer because it’s frozen? Thanks!

Great idea! Do you have to cook at a different temperature for a longer amount of time? If so, what are the changes?
