How To Make A Plank Wall

Plank walls seem to be all the rage right now and now I know why. They are easy to install, they cover a multitude of other wall problems, and (my favorite) they are inexpensive.

And for all those reasons…I now have one where my dining room closet used to be!

The House of Smiths gave a great tutorial that we followed to get this look.

First, we picked up three sheets of 4×8 utility plywood.  It was paint ready.  We had the hardware store cut the wood for us into 6 inch strips.

The last one was a little short because of the saw kerf.  We made sure to keep those smaller pieces aside so they didn’t get mixed in and make the planks look uneven.

Each of the planks were hung to the wall with brads.

To get an even space in between each board we used a nickel for our spacers.

These plank walls are a perfect cover up for the beat up, old plaster walls that were left behind when we removed the wall and closet door.

So we installed the plank on each of the walls, the ceiling and the floor.

I sort of like the unfinished wood look but it doesn’t go with my house.

This space is really coming together and I can’t wait to show you the rest of it…but I will!

I’ve been wanting to do this in our bedroom. I love seeing how other people accomplished it. I have a much bigger wall to do, but I love how easy this looks! Thanks! ~Ali from Pies & Puggles

Have you posted about the upper cabinets yet? I can’t wait to hear how you made them! The whole thing looks amazing! I want a kitchen desk but there is no where that I can do this! I wish I had a little old closet that I could renovate. It is beautiful. Great job!
