Shaping Up the School Room

Filed Under: Frugal Find, Getting Organized, Homeschool, ReStore Deals

It finally feels like Spring in NE Ohio and the lawn, painting, and yard work is calling my name.  But as promised I did get to my school room this week.  It is so nice to be making progress around the house.  This progress gives me the freedom to spend time outside…where I really want to be.
So, here’s what you’ve been waiting for… The School Room before:

I got rid of a ton of stuff…our garbage can is overflowing again this week. To find places for everything that was in here, I had to clean out a closet.  I also cleaned out from under the basement steps while attempting to find the right paint to do some touch up work in here.  But I am thrilled with the result of the room and I also love the sense of accomplishment.

A friend asked to borrow my school table for their garage sale this weekend so the room looks extra empty.  Don’t you love it?

I organized the bookshelf and arranged some of our curriculum for the fall.

I set my sewing machine up and neatly hid my sewing stuff under the table cloth.

I picked up this map from my ReStore for $10 …what a deal!

I’m not sure this dry erase calendar will stay in the school room but I found it at a garage sale yesterday for a quarter.

I tried to get fancy and add letters to my filing drawers.  I didn’t realize until I took the picture how crooked the letters were.  I fixed them!

This is one of my favorite aspects of the school room…my timeline.  I saw this at a museum a couple summers ago and knew I wanted to incorporate it in my room.  We add events from history as we go about our study.  It’s a good refresher to look up and see what we have studied and when it took place.

good job Carrie. Hey my sale is going well. All my “junk” making money. Can’t wait to find out the grand total. 🙂 My house feels like it is taking a big breath with all that stuff gone.

The timeline is an idea even those of us who are not brave enough to homeschool (extra blessings on you, you deserve it!) could do. The concept of time is a difficult one! Great job on your clean out!!!! You and the kids will enjoy it! jules
