Homemade Sweeper and Duster Covers

The dust-bunnies are multiplying in my house!  Laminate floor seems to attract these critters.  Sweeping just doesn’t cut it!!  That’s why I love my Swiffer Sweeper.  It always seems to pick up more dust and doesn’t just move it around like my broom.
I decided to make some reusable covers so I could mop up the snow and gunk carried in to my new mudroom and be able to do my “sweeping” and then just throw my covers in the washer and use them again.
They were really easy to make with just a little sewing.

, Saving 4 Six

I cut out an 11 inch x 5 1/2 inch piece of an old towel and two little 3 inch x 5 1/2 inch pieces.

, Saving 4 Six

I pinned them and then sewed them right close to the edge of the material.

As you can see, they work perfectly…getting rid of those pesky dust-bunnies.

, Saving 4 Six

I came across a pattern for a duster.  So while I was making my sweeper covers I threw together a few of these dusters as well.

These are the step by step photos from my dusters.  Check out the full tutorial here.

They do their job and then you pull ’em off and pop ’em in the washer and dryer…ready to use again…SOOO Cool!!

Blessings,

I just made two of the swiffer dusters. I just kind of made one up based on some I had seen online and then I used by disposible one as a pattern also before I threw my last one away. I used some leftover fleece I had from another project. It works great!

Love these ideas. Swiffers do clean really well, but they’re one use, landfill bound. I thought hubs would fall over when he asked what paper towels I wanted and I said none. In 35 years we’ve accumulated plenty of things to use for rags. It’s not like we throw anything away…

Great use for old towels. I do not like buying disposable stuff. I’m with Janet, I rarely use a paper towel anymore.

I tried to make the swiffer cover and as I was sewing it, I realized I wouldn’t be able to get it over both ends, so I am not sure how you did??? So I just made sheets out of old towles and adhered them as you would an actual swiffer sheet – I used microfiber towels and they don’t unravel!

      Hi Patti,
The Swiffer covers are a tight fit sliding them on and off but I have made several and they go over both ends with little effort.
The microfiber is a great idea! Your way is no sew too making them even easier…brilliant!

Wouldn’t microfiber towels work best? They seem to attract dirt really well. I think I’ll try one of those to make a duster refill. I just can’t believe the price of the refills!

Great idea! I have a disposable wet-mop that I use old wash-clothes instead of buying refills; just tuck the corners in & it’s ready!
