I really am learning to love sewing and wanted to have a space designated for it. I figured if I had a space, I would do it more. I did need the space to be practical and multifunctional. This is my new, organized space.
I repurposed my old school table to hold my sewing machine and still have room at the other end to cut material. I would love to get a nice cutting mat to go at that end of the table too. My table is being used for storage as well.
I can hide up to 8 storage boxes under, with the table sitting on top of them.
I made this table skirt using the cheapest material I could find…muslin. I inserted pleats every six inches…pinned and then sewed them along the top.
And then sewed the bristle-like side of the velcro to my material…every couple pleats.
The table works well like this as long as everything is level. I had to move the boxes around a bit to get them level but now it works very nicely.
Under the table I have my little chest of drawers that holds my sewing supplies.
Isn’t that a darling pincushion…you can find the tutorial here. |
I know, it’s not anything special but it is my new and organized sewing space. I’m looking forward to getting busy and starting a project soon!
Oh, so jealous! I usually have to use the dining room table and it’s in the middle of all the action, so it can’t stay there! I love the pleats on the curtain, what a fun idea. And aren’t mom’s great??? My mother in law gave me a while sewing starter kit and I couldn’t be more grateful!
The DR table is what I usually use too…actually started a project last night and tossed my material on the table before thinking…oops!
Headed to my sewing space to finish the job!
What a great idea to put the storage bins under the table and out of the way! And I’m jealous of all that cutting and prepping space – great job!
Aren’t you ingenious! It’s such a clever idea and look at all the storage containers you can hide under there! Amazing! I have a table I might like to do that “skirting” to. YOu gals all inspire me so much but I need to stop looking and start doing! LOL! Thanks for sharing…great idea!
That’s a BIG problem for me!! I stay up really late browsing…I love all the inspiration in blog land!
Very nice! It is always fun to get organized- which reminds me, I should get off of this computor and get busy!
Hey, don’t say it’s nothing special! If it’s YOURS and you’re happy with it, it’s SPECIAL! I think you’ve done a great job of using every inch of space..way to go, girl!
I found your post from ‘chic on a shoestring’. This is special because its your new space and you can work in it 😀 I’m going to be sewing soon too…I have to if I want to wear the kind of clothes I like. Next week is my B’Day and I think I’m getting a new sewing machine. I can’t wait to see what happens. Good luck!
I was totally blessed with my sewing machine. I got it at a garage sale for $10 and it works like new…or so I imagine a new sewing machine would work!
That’s awesome! I would’ve never guessed you had big bins under there! Great job!
Great job of creating a sewing space for yourself. Looks great!
