Organizing Challenge Week 9 – The Linen Closet

I’ve been telling you all about the mess my linen closet was in.

, Saving 4 Six
Pretty bad, huh?

Well, I am ecstatic to say that it is now COMPLETE!!
I cleaned off all the shelves and emptied out all my mismatched containers.

, Saving 4 Six
This whole process was pretty tedious as I took out all the shelves and recognized that the closet had been painted over wallpaper which was papered over plaster.  This just made for one mess on top of another!  Boy am I glad it’s done.

, Saving 4 Six

, Saving 4 Six

, Saving 4 Six

I painted the closet with Behr Sonata,  ( I’m hoping to paint my bathroom that color in the near future) and painted the shelves white.
I purchased some cheap foam trim to put on the the front of the shelves.

, Saving 4 Six

, Saving 4 Six
This gave the shelves a finished look.

So I’m pleased to present my finished and organized linen closet.

, Saving 4 Six

, Saving 4 Six

, Saving 4 Six
The top three shelves are my burlap covered boxes.  They are labeled and holding various health and beauty items.

, Saving 4 Six

, Saving 4 Six

The bottom of the closet has some bigger boxes that I covered in burlap and lined with muslin.

, Saving 4 Six

, Saving 4 Six

These boxes, whatever the size, are so inexpensive to make and are very practical.

, Saving 4 Six

The other little boxes were dollar store boxes that I had in my bathroom vanity.  I moved them to the closet and re-labeled them with matching labels.

, Saving 4 Six

I purchased new bath towels…the first time in nineteen years!!  I am so excited to have new towels, I haven’t even let my family use them yet!!

, Saving 4 Six

Another organizational project is now complete…YAY!!! This one was a biggie for me, I’m so glad it’s done and I can enjoy the outcome.

Blessings,
, Saving 4 Six

Love it but where do you hide the linens, sheets etc.? My linen closet is over run with old towels, 3 sizes of sheets for various beds and toilet paper. If I look at it funny it threatens to explode!

Awesome! Where do you put your sheets? I have 398475983479345 sets of sheets I got from my mother of varying sizes for various beds and so many towels (all from mom!) that my closet threatens to explode. I’m not sure I could even stack it all in boxes.

I don’t have quite as many sheets as you, so storing them isn’t that big of a deal! 🙂 I only have one extra set for my bed which is in one of the boxes in the bottom of the closet, and the kids each have an extra set that I keep with some other blankets and things in a rubbermaid container in the basement. I usually just wash the sheets that are on their beds now and throw them back on.
The link below shows where I store my rubbermaid containers.

Would you believe….my daughter and I bought a house last fall. Two bathrooms, 3 bedrooms…NO linen closet! NONE! No coat closet, either! My daughter is using her closet, I’m using 2 cabinets that were supposed to go in my craft room! So, besides being totally jealous, you did an amazing job! As usual!

That really is crazy that you don’t have a linen closet! 🙁 May I recommend (if you have the space) finding an empty wall maybe at the end of a hallway where you could put up a simple shelf (even a garage type metal shelf) I have one painted in a cute color and just organized things in baskets similar to how the closet is done it the post. Also, I use our “linen” closet for pictures and home accesorries that ar out of rotation and have installed shelves above the entry door of each room where linens and other things can be stored that are specific to that room. For me it’s convenient bc it’s in the actual room but, I’m also tall so I ‘m not sure if grabbing a stool would be annoying for a shorter gal. Good luck! 🙂

I am definitely drooling! That blue for some reason goes straight to my core and coddles me because whenever I see it I am in love. Which is good, because it is the color my living room is painted. So peaceful!

I also love the little labels and the covered boxes. I have been wanting to do this for some time now!
