Do you ever just want a change?? I know I sure do!! Last week I really wanted to make some changes around the house and of course didn’t want to spend much. I decided to brighten up my living room with some new updated material.
My first course of action was to recover the hope chest.
This is a simple procedure. Here’s what you do:
Open the chest and remove the screws holding the cushion in place. My hope chest only had four screws to remove.
You can choose to either cover the existing material or remove it and use all new. I chose to just cover what was already there.
As you can see I have recovered this several times over the years.
Using a staple gun, pull the material tight and start stapling from the center, outward.
Then just screw the cushion back to the hope chest and you have beautiful, new, fresh look!
Now the question…To paint or not to paint??? What do you think…should I paint the hope chest??
PS… I did end up painting my hope chest… You can see that post HERE.
PAINT IT!! I was afraid to paint mine because it was (in my best Mom voice) “Nice wood, why would you want to cover it up?” but I did… and now it is an awesome black with an updated cover! I LOVE IT NOW and don’t push it to the back of the room! GO FOR IT!!
PAINT IT! you will love it! My inner Mom voice kept telling me not to, but my outer Curious voice won! GO FOR IT!
I’ve been afraid to do anything with mine, so thanks for the inspiration!
That chest looks great! I love the fabric you used. It looks lovely as it is, but if you wanted to paint it I think black would look beautiful with the fabric (alternatively, white, possibly with the detail picked out in green)
I think it would look great painted black. Love the fabric choice.
These topics are so cofnisung but this helped me get the job done.
ola! tive relaçao sexual no dia 24 de agosto para engravidar.Ai hoje faz 11 dias que transei para engravidar.Gostaria de saber se eu ja posso esta gravida?????ou se ja posso fazer o exame??????Obrigada!!!!
I love this! I have a hope chest that I turned the inside into a mini office complete with inspiration boards, but I hate the outside. I’d love it if you shared this at my weekly link party tonight at 8 EST at http://www.thenymelrosefamilly.blogspot.com/2012/04/whimsy-wednesdays-7.html. My hope chest is posted under http://www.thenymelrosefamily.blogspot.com/2012/02/one-stop-office-chest.html. I’m following on twitter.
I love the fabric! I think it would be nice white, but I really don’t like painting “good” quality pieces. The junky stuff, sure…but something that is good wood? not so much.
And I gave you a bloggy award for being soo awesome http://www.addhousewife.com/2012/04/versatile-blogger-award.html
Love, love, love this! You did such a great job. It's funny because as I was scrolling down through your post and saw the final pictures, I thought, "Wow. I love that fabric. The chest would be really pretty painted black." 🙂 And then I saw that you asked. So there you have another opinion. 🙂 Thanks for linking up to Simply Sensational Tuesday!
I adore that fabric. Every time I see it in the store I try to figure out what I "need" it for. 🙂
love this! great job… that fabric is fantastic! so pretty 🙂
Love it! And I say yes, paint it! Oh, I have the same exact fabric just waiting for me to use to recover my desk chair. It's such a fun print.
looks so nice, good job
Very pretty! I say leave it natural wood but then I never care for painting good wood pieces.
great fabric!
paint it. Gloss Black.
Way to take an outdated piece and bring it back to life! I love the fabric you chose too. Iffen it were mine I would paint it white so that just about any fabric change made in the future would work.
I'd love it if you shared at my new Tuesday link party starting April 24th!

This is a fantastic project! I would love it if you would consider sharing it at my Pinworthy Projects Link Party over at Just Us Four!
The fabric is lovely!!!
Paint it! We used this fabric on chairs in the shop and they were awesome in black-the best contrast with the print.
My hope chest is over 40 years old and it, too, will get a paint job this year-thank you for the inspiration!!
I love your fabric choice!

LOVE THE FABRIC! Where is it from?
I picked it up in the fabric department of my local Walmart.
Thanks!
How much fabric is needed?
I needed a piece of fabric about 46 inches long by 18 inches wide. I would certainly measure your hope chest before heading out to purchase material…just to be safe!
