It’s hard to believe that in the Fall, my oldest will be a Sophomore and we will begin planning for college. I must admit it’s a little scary to think of the expense that four years of education will bring but know too of the necessity of a good education.
With tuition costs on the rise and no real way to help that, looking for other ways to save will be at the top of my list.
One great option to consider is renting textbooks instead of buying them. CampusBookRentals is an online book rental company that offers the ability to rent textbooks as opposed to paying the high price of the campus book store. They offer free shipping both ways, friendly service, flexible renting periods, and a 30 day risk free return policy (in case you drop the class or get the wrong book).
My Better Half was a Biology major and this Biology Textbook lists for around $170!!
But you can rent it for under $30 for the entire semester. Over-all CampusBookRentals can save an average of 40% to 90% on book costs. Sounds likes a great way to save money!
This video explains how the process all works. It seems to be a great company with the potential to save you a lot of money.
One of my favorite things about CampusBookRentals is that for every book rental, they donate to Operation Smile. Operation Smile is a fabulous organization, performing cleft lip surgeries on children whose families could not afford the surgery on their own.
So, by renting from CampusBookRentals, you are not only saving money while getting your books for school, but you have the opportunity to help a child in need. Sounds like a win, win to me!
Campus Book Rentals compensated me for this post but my opinions are 100% my own.
I learned about Operation Smile in other blogs and its great that many bloggers are talking about it in the Blogosphere. I admire book publishing companies trying to do some sort of social work while earning. I think its a great way to balance earning and giving back to the community who are patronizing your product.

Thanks for the information! My son spent about $800 on books last semester and only got <$100 when he sold them back. We will definitely look into renting!
