Spray Paint in the Kitchen

Two things I really love are Spring and spray paint!  I think you already knew that but now that Spring is here and the temps are rising, I can freely spray paint again…GOOD TIMES!

This time I attacked my kitchen with spray paint.

The stove knobs were looking pretty yucky…

, Saving 4 Six

Spray painting them would make them look new again…I hoped.  I used stickers to cover up the “Off” and “Lite” markings on the knobs and then got busy.

I thought I would paint them red and give my kitchen a nice pop of color!

And it worked!

I read an article in This Old House of how someone had painted their toaster.  Mine looked nasty so after a good cleaning and prepping I used paint on this too.

I did not use a high temp. paint so I’ll keep you updated as to how this holds up.  We’ve been using it for a week now and so far so good!

I like mine red but if your appliances are stainless steel…that kind of paint is available too.
To tie the color in elsewhere in the kitchen, I spray painted this little basket.  I keep my salt and pepper shakers in it.

, Saving 4 Six

All of these got a great Colonial Red facelift for under $4…not too shabby!

I love the versatility of spray paint!  If I ever get tired of the red or just want a change…for $4 I can have a new look…again!

On your stove knobs, how did you get the degrees on there, without spaces of the original color showing?

      Hi Deb,
I don't have the degrees on the knobs. They were marked before by 1, 2, 3,…I could have left stickers on them like I did for the "Off" and "Lite" markings but decided against it. Because I have a gas stove…I can see the size of the flame and know what temperature it is at.

I was googling how to spray paint my toaster and came across your blog. I am wondering how it has held up since you didn’t use high heat or heat resistant spray paint? I actually have a ten-year-old red toaster (just the two sides are red; the rest is chrome/stainless) that I would like to paint a vintage color (perhaps aqua)but I cannot find high heat spray paint in anything other than basic colors. What spray paint did you use and are you still pleased with the results? Thanks!

      Hi Aimee,
Yes, I am still very please with the results of my toaster. I haven’t had any issues with the paint job at all!
I used Rust-oleum Paint Plus 2x Ultra Cover

      I hope this helps.
      Best Wishes,
      Carrie

I am painting my toast as I type this! Was wanting to do it for a while and did some research to see if has been successfully done before, which brought me here! I used spray primer and it's drying now, then a coat of catalina mist green, THEN a coat of aqua green GLITTER! I cannot wait to have a glittery green toaster!!! Thanks for the inspiration!

I love the red! One Home improvement show had a family that bought the high end appliances because they had red knobs! I used spray paint to redo my 70’s hood vent. I used hammered copper and it looks amazing! My mother in law could not believe the change that a little paint did for my very dated retro kitchen! I faux marble painted the countertops and did the cabinet faces white! With the copper accents it it like a whole new place! Thanks for sharing your wonderful knob idea. Maybe I will spray pain the appliances to make them fit!
