Bakin’ Bacon

Ok, so everyone else in the world may know and do this but I just heard about it and tried it and think it is about the GREATEST thing since well, you know…
I’ve made bacon several times this past week for recipes and tried to bake it instead of the nasty, painful, grease flyin’ method of the past!
Let me say…it was AWESOME!

, Saving 4 Six

Line a baking sheet that has sides with foil.

, Saving 4 Six

Lay out the bacon and place in oven on center rack.  (Don’t preheat)

, Saving 4 Six

Turn oven to 400 degrees and bake for 17 to 20 minutes depending on how crispy you like your bacon.

, Saving 4 Six

Remove from oven and lay on paper towels to soak up some of the grease (this is just optional…if you like it greasy, don’t do this step)

, Saving 4 Six

Wait for the grease on your foil to cool a bit and then just throw it away…super easy clean up.

, Saving 4 Six
Then enjoy your bacon without the mess, splatters, and burns!
(If you’re wondering if it splattered all over the place in my oven…it didn’t.
I just cleaned my oven so I was a bit nervous about this…not a problem though.)

Blessings,

The bacon looks great. Much nicer than when I pan fry it. I usually end up burning some of it. Lol.

I too just recently heard this tip, but I use my broiler pan (maybe no the right name, but a rectangle pan with a top lid that has slots in it) and the grease drains away. Sooooo much easier than the frying pan method!

We use this method for cooking our bacon too. Many years ago I noticed on a trip to visit my family that my Dad was cooking bacon in the oven. I had never seen anyone do that before (don’t remember him doing it when I was living at home). The bacon has a much better texture and flavor when it is baked in the over. I think it is the indirect, steady heat from the oven. I love that the clean up is easy too. On tip for your followers is to make sure you use a heavy duty foil or double a thinner foil so that you reduce the chance of getting a hole in the foil, which leads to a mess of bacon grease in the bottom of the pan. Happy cooking!

I love using this method. I wrote a post on it two weeks ago. Bacon is a favorite in our household.

Visiting from Family Time Tuesday. We’ve been cooking our bacon in the oven for quite a while, only I use a broiler pan to let the grease drip out and the bacon crisp up nicely. I have no desire to go back to cooking on the range now.

This is absolutely the way to cook bacon. It cooks more evenly with a lot less mess. Please share this on my foodie friday party today.

My mom does this, except she does several pounds at once, keeps it in the fridge, and heats the amount she needs in the microwave. Chris

Now you are spoiled aren't you?? I learned this years ago because I worked in restaurants, if you pre-cooked it, your breakfast took 1/2 as long…so whether it was a great idea or just laziness the tip came home with me!! I'll never fry bacon again!!!

I found the broiler pan to be too messy so I started using the cooling rack. It holds lots of bacon if you have the bigger racks. I still line the cookie sheet with foil and lay the rack inside. Easy to clean and keeps bacon out of the grease. Yum!

Almost all jamboree activities have limited access due to the numbers of scouts at the jamboree. It is not always practical to have capacity for all in attendance. Scuba for 40,000 kids? The OA mysterium compass falls into the same category this year, involving obstacle courses, water slides, and team building excercises in groups of 36 at a time.

What a beautiful story about your cat! Sweet. I feel the same way about dandelions most of the time. Hard to believe that people pay big money to destroy them!
