I hope you had a beautiful weekend.  Ours was really busy but good.  My Better Half is still working diligently on our new roof and I was able to get some stuff done outside.  I love profitable weekends!!

Last week, I stopped by a friend’s house and she had a plate very much like this one on her porch.

I thought it was so cute so I made a couple of my own this weekend.  I gave them both away already…they make a cute, easy, inexpensive gift.

I picked up two plates for just over $2 per plate.

I used my brush-on chalkboard paint to paint the center of the plates.

Let me warn you…I learned the very hard way…brush-on chalkboard paint does not stick to porcelain without priming first.
So…I had to take the paint off both of the plates, (it just peeled right off) and started again.  This time I decided to prime the plate.  I taped off the edges first.

Then I used chalkboard spray paint since I already had the plate taped off.

This worked well although there was still some paint residue on the bottom of the plate.  I didn’t think to tape off the bottom!  I just used a scrubbie and the paint came off easily.

Finally, I removed the tape, waited 24 hours for the paint to completely set and then let my artistic juices flow.

This makes a really inexpensive gift.  It is actually cheaper than the price of many cards out there today.  So if you need to say thank you, thinking of you, or happy birthday consider making one of these before buying a card.

I wrapped these up with a special message on them, two pieces of chalk, and the plate stand.  If you have the paint, this cute little gift can be made for around $5.  Not too shabby…I think I’ll make one for myself!!

Blessings,

VERY cute! I have tons of plates that I can use too since I am notorious for buying them. I love this and will definitely be copy catting it.

Love your plates! I'm confused you mentioned that you primed the plates then you mention you removed the paint off the plates. Would it be fine if I primed the section(that I wanted to use the chalkboard paint) and then apply the chalkboard paint or spray? I am not sure how I would remove the paint off the plates?!
