Pizza Night

Every Friday or Saturday night is Pizza Night at our house.  Ordering pizza can be quite costly with a family our size.  So, to save a little, I make my own.

, Saving 4 Six

We try to mix it up a bit and make several kinds.  I this particular night, these were our choices.

White Pizza: pizza crust topped with olive oil, minced garlic, and mozzarella cheese.

, Saving 4 Six
Pepperoni and Sausage Pizza: This one is self explanatory…

, Saving 4 Six
Cheeseburger Pizza: pizza crust topped with pizza sauce, ground beef, grilled onions, and cheddar cheese (this is my favorite)

, Saving 4 Six

Taco Pizza: pizza crust topped with pizza sauce, taco meat, any taco toppings you like, and feta cheese to top it off.

Another favorite of ours is BBQ chicken pizza: pizza crust topped with pizza sauce, BBQ chicken, grilled onions, and mozzarella cheese.
If I have any dough left over, I like to make up some pepperoni rolls for lunches the next day.

If you’re looking for a good pizza dough recipe, this is the one I always use.  It has been in my family for a very long time.
Pizza Dough
2 1/2 cups warm water
1 tablespoon yeast
1/3 cup cooking oil
1/3 cup white sugar
2 heaping teaspoons salt
7 cups flour
Mix first five ingredients together then add the flour.  Mix until you have a nice dough consistency.  I use my bread hook on my mixer but using your hand to mix works well too.
This dough makes three cookie sheet size pizza or three round pizza pan pizzas.

I had some questions regarding the pizza crust. I was wondering at what temp and amount of time do you bake the cookie sheet size pizza? I would also probably freeze the other 2 doughs from this recipe, as one cookie sheet of pizza is enough for my family. Have you ever frozen the dough to use later? Any ideas how I would go about doing this successfully? Love your blog, thank you for posting such yummy stuff for all of us to enjoy!

I’m always hesitant to add baking time and temperature because of the differences in each oven. So, I will tell you that I bake my pizza at 370 degrees for 20-25 minutes or until the bottom of my crust is light brown. As far as freezing the dough, I have never frozen this dough. What I have done is to make the pizza up (baking it and all) and then put it in a garbage bag and freeze until the next week. I would not keep it frozen too long…so you avoid freezer burn.
      I hope this helps,
      Carrie

My kids LOVE pizza night, and it’s so easy to make the base and let them choose the toppings. It’s definitely a hit–I love your ideas! I always make a vegetarian pizza with mushrooms, red peppers, maybe some olives. But I’m kind of weird that way. 🙂

This is making me hungry. I love homemade pizza. I often will buy pre-made fresh pizza dough at Trader Joe’s, but sometimes make it on my own. I’ll have to try your recipe. Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving me a sweet comment about the Butterfinger cake. The bible study is amazing. I’m really learning a lot going through it. Have a wonderful week!

Hi! Thanks for the recipe, just what I was looking for. Got one question, how much time you let the dough to rise before dividing it and baking it? Thank you!

I let it raise for just over an hour. Enjoy!
