Organizing the Closets

Getting Organized

This week I decided to tackle the closets in my house.  Did I say closets?? Yes, yes I did.  Wow, you may think…pretty ambitious to take on all the closets in your house in one week.  Well, before you go thinking anything of the sort, you should know, I only have three closets in my house of six people. No, that was not a typo.  Our house will be 100 years old next year and closets were not of much importance to the individual that built this house.
So, the first closet…you have probably seen a time or two.  It is the closet right outside of my bathroom.  You may remember the pictures from last year before my big organizational kick.  It looked like this…

Yeah, I know…BAD!
But, after much work, purging, creating, painting, and organizing, it was transformed to look like this…

, Saving 4 Six
You can see that whole transformation HERE.

And, I am please to say that the organizing worked and today it looks like this…

Not much different, huh?

My burlap covered cardboard boxes held up beautifully.

Occasionally, I have to snip a ragged edge of burlap off, but other than that, they have served their purpose well…and they still look great.

My next closet that really did need serious help this week was the closet in my dining room. I think it was intended to be a coat closet and we are using it for that purpose as well as for a closet for my three sons.
Everything just gets thrown in there and it was a disaster…again!!

I took everything out and started fresh.  Purging the clothes and coats that don’t fit anymore and getting rid of bags, purses, backpacks, and lots of misc. junk that was cluttering the closet.

, Saving 4 Six

After getting everything back in the closet, I was amazed at how much room there was!  Maybe we don’t need three closets after all.  JUST KIDDING!!
I do want to get matching hangers for this closet.  Does that bother you?…mismatched hangers??
Finally, I headed up to my bedroom closet.  That was one of my organizational projects from last year too.

But it needed a bit of sprucing up as well.

I put like things together (long sleeve, sweaters, polos) and then cleaned out the boxes that hold our under clothes.

Well, that’s three things I can cross off my to-do list.  Lots more to go but I’m thankful for the progress!

Blessings,

Congrats on getting organized. The closets look great. I really like how the blue paint inside the hall closet blends with your labels. Very nice! 🙂

Good for you!! I'm really impressed you kept your linen closet in that shape all year. Mine looked good last Jan. but now? I think I'll do a before and after soon. Purging can be so rewarding, but it is work!

I love organization! That was actually the only compliment my ex- sister-n-law ever paid me.. She commented once that my closets and cabinets saluted me whenever I opened them. lol

Wowee! love the make-over in your top closet. great job! a beautiful and practical space makes you want to put things away, eh? Having limited storage space makes you choose carefully what you put in them. You are an inspiration – thanks!

Great job! We just built a house and have closets and storage space like there’s no tomorrow… So I tip my hat to anyone wanting to be organized even with just 3 closets! One thing that helps me, my husband and my kids with picking out an outfit is organizing clothes by type (jeans, shirts, skirts and so on) and by color!!! Closets look so much better that way… Best regards!
