Boys Room Makeover Begins

So, the wheels are a turning for a bedroom makeover on my boys’ room.  If you’ve been here for a while you know it’s the room that I dislike…A LOT!  To appease them all many years ago I let them pick a color for their bedroom and since there are three of them that share a room, they of course chose three VERY different colors.

And the wall you cannot see in these pictures…lime green!  Yep, pretty bad isn’t it?!
Anyway, I’ve been pinning ideas for their room here.  And have been picking up things at my Restore that I think will work in this new room.
I found these jar-looking sconces at ReStore back in the fall and am excited to see how they will look in the new less colorful room!

, Saving 4 Six
We also found some a lot of furniture at ReStore that we plan to take apart and repurpose for this room.

Can you see it?  The possibilities??  I sure can!  I can’t wait for the weather to warm up so I can get outside and start some painting!  We bought this whole lot of cabinets, but that’s a deal story for a whole different day.

Well, we started by tearing out the walls.  Most of the walls were plaster and if you have ever had plaster walls and have removed them, you know it is a MESS!

The blurry pictures show the dust floating around in the air.  The disaster on the floor is a small fraction of what we took out of that room.
After removing the plaster, we found VERY little insulation in the walls.  No wonder it’s so cold in here!

We would love to leave the slanted walls exposed but with the freezing cold winters, there is just no way that will work.
We removed the carpet from the room and were excited to see hardwood floors underneath.  But they are in really bad shape with missing pieces and some bad gaps.

So, here we are with a clean slate.  The weeks ahead will be filled with decisions on wall type, flooring, colors, and all other fun choices.
I’ll keep you all posted as new developments take place! But for now, we are off to insulate.

Blessings,
, Saving 4 Six

If you have the money or are capable yourselves, I would add some dormers to those celings/roof line so that it will open up that room some more. Just a thought.

Such exciting possibilities for that space! I love the sloped ceiling … too bad you can’t leave it open like that! Can’t wait to see more of the makeover.

I am thinking those 3 drawer TV cabinets for knee wall built in drawers? Painted up, really nice quality. I love real wood! that floor might be salvage-able. don’t forget in the old houses it might be varnish on the floors, we removed it with ammonia.
    Have fun!!

OOoh! What possibilities! I love our Restore! Those big cabinets you found are amazing! Here’s a post of when I went to my Restore to buy a light fixture (It’s like Costco – you go for one thing, but come home with so much more!)
