TV Cabinet Makeover

So last week I showed you all the furniture we picked up at Restore with the purpose of making it over for the boys’ room.  Well the boys’ room is now completely insulated and it’s getting all new wiring with a bunch of new outlets.  We have built new knee-walls and will begin hanging drywall soon.  But while all the “necessaries” are being done, I thought I’d show you what we are doing with the furniture.  Let me tell you about the deal we got first.
These pieces had just come in to the store and weren’t even marked when we got  there. We had pretty much scoured the store without much success when we came to the very back of the store and saw all these “beauties”.

, Saving 4 Six

We asked one of the volunteers how much these pieces were and when he came back, we were pleasantly surprised for him to tell us they were only $20 each.  Then the really good news…the store was running a 20% off everything sale at the time!!

, Saving 4 Six

Yep…each piece only $16.  We could not even buy the MDF for that price or the drawer glides and hardware.  What a find!
So, obviously we didn’t need 4 tv cabinets but we did need the drawers so here’s what we did.

, Saving 4 Six

My Better Half, using a jig saw, cut off the top part (the tv storage part) of each cabinet.

, Saving 4 Six

This left some serious uglies around the top edges of the drawers.

, Saving 4 Six

So, using a rubber mallet I just pounded off the very top of the cabinet.

, Saving 4 Six

This fit perfectly on top of the drawers and hides all the saw marks below.

, Saving 4 Six

So, for $64 the boys have four “new” dressers for their room.
Now the fun part is the painting.  I’m strongly leaning to this color…

, Saving 4 Six

What do you think…Will this bluish-grey be too much with four of these in their room?

Genius! What an awesome find and super creative way to create your own dresser! Love the color you may use. It looks like a blue / gray color. Correct?

Great idea! That’s a really great price, too! Our closet Restore is high!!! These cabinets, if at our Restore, would probably have cost over $100!

You did a fantastic job on this! I have been wanting to cut down a tall dresser for months and have been reluctant to tackle it. Thanks for paving the way! I found you on West Furniture Revival.
