I have a 16 year old. I can’t believe that is true…but it is. With my 16 year old has come a new desire for independence. He has a job, he drives, he makes trips to the store by himself, and hangs out with his friends. With his independence, he had a desire to have a bedroom of his own. He had been sharing with his brothers and it was getting just a little too small for three teenage boys.
So, when we did the boys’s bedroom makeover, he asked if we could make a room for him in the basement.
I wanted him to have a space of his own and since we don’t really use our school room other than for storage, we have transformed that into his bedroom.
We started by added a piece of this composite panel on the back wall.

Very nice. Bet your son loves the new space. Once they start driving…oh I know how it is. Have a lovely day.

Looks great. I am sure he is ecstatic. I think there comes a time when everyone needs their own space. You did a great job with it… although you may not see him much now that he can hide in HIS room!
I love how a space doesn't have to be big to be great. You created a nice place for him to take another step toward independence. Great job!
Looks Fantastic!!

It looks really nice. Just checking – is there a way for him to get out in case of a fire if the stairway is blocked? You can't tell from the photos. Please make sure there are at least two ways out in case of emergency.
Very nice!
Super!
What a great little space for your independent teen! I love all the pieces that you put in the room and that you turned them all into such great pieces. Love it!
