Last fall I purchased apples by the bushel from an Amish man. They were wonderful apples that we kept good longer by storing them in a cold part of our basement. There were a few that didn’t make it until we could get them eaten so I decided to make try making some crock pot apple sauce.
Apart from peeling the apples, it was extremely easy and turned out delicious!
I started with my left over apples. I made use of all the ones that weren’t rotten. In this case, it was about 23 medium sized apples.
After pealing and slicing them. I cooked them with brown sugar and cinnamon in the crockpot on high for about 4 hours or until they were mushy.
The applesauce would be good just like this but some of my kids are kinda finicky about consistency, so I put the applesauce in my crock pot until it was smooth.
The finished product was a delicious side dish that we all enjoyed!
- 8 lbs apples, peeled and sliced
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- ½ cup brown sugar
- Peel and slice apples
- Add in cinnamon and brown sugar
- Cook in crock pot for 4 to 5 hours or until apples are mushy
- Puree in food processor (if desired)
- Serve warm or cold

Our neighbor is a farmer and he blessed us with 4 large buckets of apples. My husband and I made 14 apple crisps and froze them. Then we took the rest and made crock pot applesauce overnight. I was so surprised and happy to see how easy and delicious it was! I just used a potato masher for the lumps (which were few). We ate some, used some for baking and then froze the rest in reusable containers (to be used for baking at a later date).

Oh Carrie! I’m once again cracking up: I get a weekly CSA produce box from a local organic group. The contents vary weekly but there have been LOTS of apples included over the past month or so. Last night I was putting away the contents of this week’s box and realized the bottom two crisper drawers were entirely devoted to apples! So I took ALL of them out and put them on the counter and said to Dave that this morning I need to find a recipe for crockpot applesauce! And what did I see as soon as I woke up? YOUR recipe! LOL! Love you girly!
