So, tomorrow My Princess is going to a homeschool Valentine’s party. She is so excited! Since I’m always behind running a little late this year, we were finishing up her valentines for the party, TODAY! So, although that seems problematic, the real jaw dropper was when she uttered these words to me,
“This is the first time I ever exchanged Valentines”.
What?
“This is the first time I ever exchanged Valentines”.
I was sure I had misheard her a second time and so I asked again. She then continued to convince me… this was indeed her first Valentine’s Party that she is at least old enough to remember and the first time she has ever exchanged valentines.
Ok, so you may ask, “what’s the big deal?” Well the big deal is the fact that My Princess is almost 10, in the fourth grade, and will probably only want to exchange valentines for maybe one more year!! Oh my, what have I done?? How did this happen? Is it because I had three boys in three years, and after they made it past the Valentine’s Party scene, I was just too exhausted, too cheap, or too lazy to bother with Valentine’s Day for my ONE daughter??? The ONE that really appreciates pink, cuddly, and cute?? I seriously DON”T KNOW HOW THIS HAPPENED!! And here I am TODAY, working on her Valentines for tomorrow. Had I known remembered she had never done this before, I would have made more effort to make these extra special. Oh well, what can I say?? The bright part of it all is that she loves the valentines we made, as do I, but then I remembered, oh yeah, she’s never been to a Valentine’s Day Party…she doesn’t know what to expect!!! Thankfully, these valentines are super cute!!
Wow, all of that was intro to these super cute, super easy, last minute, PERFECT valentines!!
Ok, I have a Cricut machine and used it to cut out these butterflies on decorative card stock. The Cricut cuts the time down considerably, but you can use a good ole’ pair of scissors and cut out a butterfly.
On the back of the butterflies, we added a To: and From: and added the recipient and Kiersten, the giver.
I gently folded the butterflies and snipped two little holes for the sucker to slide through.
Kiersten fed the suckers between the two holes and they held in place nicely. So, there you have it!! Some cute, last minute (if necessary), easy valentines.
It’s gonna be an exciting day for My Princess! I can hardly wait to hear about her FIRST VALENTINE EXCHANGE.
Enjoy,

Cute idea, Carrie. Kiersten might surprise you. When I hit middle school, I was too cool for traditional valentines, but still wanted to do something, so I started making funny valentines. One year, I told fortunes, such as, “You will go into retail marketing and become the Underwear King of Hoboken, New Jersey,” and “Your cat has been filming videos of you and posting them to youtube under the title “Grumpy Girl.”
