I love old stuff. Some call it vintage or rustic, but you and I both know, that it really is old stuff that we’re classin’ up. Last year, I told you about a dining room table that we refinished for a friend…it turned out beautifully!! You can see that full post HERE. One night while we were at her house, My Better Half spotted some goodies in her burn pile…two vintage rustic OLD wooden ladders. He asked her if she was getting rid of them and after a little bit of weird look, we tossed them in the van and they were our new, old treasures!!! They’ve been sitting outside for many months now just waiting to be repurposed. Well recently, I showed you My Princess’s new Space Saving Loft Bed, where one of the wooden ladders got put to good use and quite honestly, makes the bed. Its rustic charm just adds a perfect touch. As I’ve said before, “It’s in the details”!!
Last weekend, I was getting ready to have family over and was looking around at my living room, and because moving furniture around in that room is not really an option, I have to get creative with my wall decor. I showed you a few weeks back where I took took the closet office door and created a beautiful picture display in my living room.
Well, I still had a little bit of wall space that looked bare and needed some sprucing up, so I took an old mirror from my dining room and moved it to the living room. I got this mirror a few years back at flea market for $5 and spray painted it red. (You can see that post here.) It has made its home in many different rooms over the years and is now residing in the living room. I LOVE it there. It adds the perfect pop of red in that room.
Now, the other side of the room had another blank wall that I’ve been staring at, trying to figure out what to put on it!! My Better Half and I were pretty convinced it needed some kind of shelf and actually searched for some OLD hardware and items we could repurpose to make a unique shelf. THEN OUT OF NOWHERE came the idea!!! The other old ladder… USE THE OTHER OLD LADDER!!! So, my precious Better Half went out and got the ladder, cut it down a couple feet, and set up. I. Fell. In. Love!!!! It was EXACTLY what I was looking for!!!
It adds some rustic whimsy to the other side of the room and just seems to tie it all together.
I love this room! We don’t have a family room, so this living room is definitely “lived in”. Our furniture shows wear (it should…it’s almost 20 years old!!) and usually there are pillows, cushions, and blankets on the floor, dishes on the table, and books and devices laying around. It is not a showplace by any means, but it is our living room and the rustic, OLD charm fits our house and so does the ladder that has “completed” this room (until the next time I decide to change something up)!!
Happy Repurposing!
