Let me start this post by saying this is NOT a sponsored post. I am writing this post because I think I found something good that you can all benefit from and I want to pass the good news on to my readers. That good thing is Walmart Grocery Pickup and I saved $10 on my first order. So, let me tell you about my experience.
The day was July 3rd. I was working around the house trying to get things in order before My Better Half got off work early and we started our July 4th festivities. I had been going about my day adding to my grocery list in preparation for my cookout. I was trying to figure out when I would run to the grocery and was putting it off because I figured it would be so ridiculously busy and really just didn’t want to go!! Then I remembered that my sister has been raving about the new Walmart Grocery Pickup and so I decided to give it a try.
I headed to the Walmart grocery website to check for availability (even though I knew my local store had pickup). I entered my zip code and it verified that my store has grocery pickup. It then led me to Walmart Grocery where I started searching for items and adding them to my online cart. The process was super easy and everything I needed was found in my search. After adding everything I thought I needed to my online cart. I reserved a time for my order. From what I’ve come across, your order pickup has to be at least the next day. I have never seen any pickup times available on the same day as the order. I scheduled my grocery pickup for between 8-9 the next morning. Finally, I went through the checkout process and this completed my order…or so I thought.
As my day progressed I started remembering things I had forgotten to order and so I got back on the Walmart grocery site and was able to add to my order, more things than I care to admit. I had the option to continue adding to my order until 1:00 AM on the day of my pickup. I found this to be VERY convenient!!
Now, came the morning of my grocery pickup, I downloaded the Walmart grocery app which sent me a message telling me that my order was ready to pickup. So, before I left my house, I opened the app and it gave me the option to “check in”. Which is basically sending a notification telling the store that you are on your way to pick up your order and there is some sort of GPS tracking that tells them how long it will take you to get to the store.
When arriving at the store, I followed the signs in the parking lot to take me to the grocery pick up area and parked in one of the designated spots.
Within 2 minutes, someone came out the side door with all my groceries loaded neatly on a cart. They came to my car window and thanked me for choosing grocery pickup and gave me this cute little welcome back filled with samples and coupons.
Then they began to load my trunk with groceries. She came back to my car window and told me about several items that I had ordered that they did not have and continued to tell me what they had used as substitutions. For example; I ordered Great Value Lite Italian Dressing, they did not have it and so they substituted it with regular Great Value Italian Dressing. She asked if I wanted to accept that substitution before adding it to my order. Another substitution was that I ordered cinnamon dental floss and they substituted it for plain. All of the substitutions were asked about before adding to the order. When there was an increase in price because of the substitution, I was not charged for the increase. The whole substitution thing threw me for a loop. I just assumed that everything I placed in my online cart would be available in the store but the substitutions they made were all good and the first time I placed a grocery pickup order was the only time they had to make any substitutions.
Finally, I signed that I had picked up my order and I was done. Apart from having my groceries delivered to my door step and having someone put them away for me, this was probably the most pain-free grocery shopping experience I’ve ever had. I know for a fact it was the shortest one. It took only about 7 minutes for them to bring out my groceries, explain the substitutions, and load up my car.
Several of my friends have had questions as I told them about the process. The number one question being, “what about produce?” I have ordered produce each time and have been VERY pleased with the produce they chose for me. I have ordered apples, sweet peppers, colored and green peppers, lettuce, spinach, grapes, watermelon, and bananas. I know all the stores are different and each picker has their own standards but my experiences with having someone else choose my produce thus far, has been good.
This service is one of my favorite new time savers. I really cannot say one bad thing about the process. At this time you cannot use coupons with the grocery pickup but with your emailed receipt comes your Walmart Savings Catcher number, so you can continue to save money as well as time.
One other great way to save money is with this $10 referral coupon code that you can use on your first grocery pickup order. Typically the minimum order for grocery pickup is $30, but to use this coupon code you must spend $50. It really is a great savings!!
Anyway, you really should check out the grocery pickup. I’m really loving it and think you will too. Be sure to grab the coupon code and save $10, when you use my code, I get a little kick-back too.

Carrie, Our store was one of the first to get the grocery pickup and I have been using it for well over a years.
We also travel a lot in our camper and the grocery pickup allows me to make a grocery order to be picked up at a Wal-Mart at our destination so I don’t have to load a bunch of groceries into our camper before leaving.
Conversely, when we are coming back home, I am able to order the groceries that I want to have back home at our home Wal-Mart that I can just fly through and pick up so that we have our milk, bread, butter and whatever else we will be needing when we arrive. It is SO WONDERFUL!
Like you said, I have ordered fresh produce, meat and anything that I normally need and they have done a good job of choosing the quality that I would choose.
They have been very intuitive with their substitutions and on the very rare times I didn’t like the substitution, they kept it and I was not charged for it.
From time to time I need something that I cannot order online or that I want to choose. I just go a bit early and pop into the store, zoom through, pick up the few items and usually go through the self checkout which even on really busy days is very quick, then go pick up the groceries and I am out of there!
I have to say…this is one thing that Wal-Mart got RIGHT!!!! LOVE IT!!!!
There is no extra charge for the service and you are not allowed to tip the associates that bring out the groceries nor are they allowed to accept a tip. When you get your receipt via email, you have the opportunity to give feedback about your trip and the service. I am told that this is the payoff for the associates as they receive some sort of recognition from their managers for excellent reviews, so I always try to fill out the feedback.
You can’t go wrong.
Thank you so much for your input on the grocery pickup and I’m please to see that your results have been the same as mine. This is indeed one thing that Walmart got right!!
Have you compared pickup prices vs instore prices? I’m not the grocery shopper in our house, but one item I buy is TicTac’s in a 4 pack in the candy aisle. In store price $3.23. Pickup price over $4. I realize this is only one example.
