We are not usually home for July 4th weekend. Almost every year we spend the holiday week at my mom and dad’s house and enjoy the festivities where they live. This year however, we are staying in out little community and going to a July 4th party over the weekend, going to fireworks, and then enjoying a barbecue at home on the 4th. We’re looking forward to being at home, but because we spend so much time at the pool during the summer, our yard has suffered the past couple of years. Last weekend was unusually cool and so we took that opportunity to stay home and catch up on some much needed yard work and make a few purchases to get things looking nice again.
I’ve done several blog posts about my deck over the years… Sprucing up Deck Furniture with Spray Paint, How to Clean a Deck, Decorating the Deck for Summer, Deck Feature, and my Deck Table Makeover. Our deck is just an extension of our house and we use it very often during the summer months. However, the past couple of years, our deck furniture was jut getting run down to the point that spray paint and extra screws could not help. I desperately wanted new furniture but looking at the prices at the depot and even stuff mart, it didn’t really fit into my budget. So, I started searching Letgo. Have you tried the app? We have gotten about a half dozen things through Letgo and have been pleased with our deals every time.
Last weekend I found the deal I’ve been looking for. I found this nice table with all six chairs and brand new cushions for … Are you ready for it??? $130!! I got a great bargain. The chairs and table will need a little touch up spray paint but for now, we’ll just use it the way it is. We’ve already enjoyed many meals around the new table. Actually more than we had at our old table in a LONG time.
After we got the new table on the deck, I found these hanging baskets for 2/$10 at my local depot. I try to avoid purchasing annuals but at that price, I couldn’t pass them up.
For a while My Princess’s playhouse has been pretty much in the center of the yard. Last weekend we moved it to another part of the yard so we could build a fire pit. It’s not a big fire pit or a fancy one, but we were able to get the stones for it at the depot for $33. We had a fire in it that very night and then my kiddos had some friends over the next day and had a campfire. I’m looking forward to many evenings out there by the fire.
Our next project was a new screen door to go along with a new Craftsman front door. I had really hoped that My Better Half would build a wood screen door, but when we came across this one beside the road for FREE, we could not pass it up. And the fit was PERFECT!! It was crazy!!
Our last little task in sprucing up was to hang this new American flag I found at my local Aldi store. It was only $6.99 and since my old flag had weathered a few too many storms, it was time to get a new one.
I’m thrilled with the much needed updates and changes around our yard and home and the best part was we did them all on a budget. So, when you’re looking to make some changes and updates, be sure to keep your eye open for road-side finds, second-hand deals, and sales. They can save you a lot!!
