Our house is a work in progress and has been since we bought it 23 years ago. Pretty much every room has gotten at least a couple makeovers over the years. Our kitchen has been one of the rooms that has gotten makeover after makeover. I’ve shared many of those makeovers with you in the past. You can see many of those here.
Despite the makeovers and changes, I’m always finding myself running out of storage space. I’ve got a shelving unit in the basement reserved for pantry space but I’m hoping to use that space for some other storage needs I have.
So, I convinced My Better Half to come up with a plan to create a pantry space upstairs in my dining room which will be the start of our latest kitchen/dining room makeover.
I’ve been wanting to start this project for quite some time but I had a hard time finding the supplies I was looking for to create the pantry I had in mind.
The main thing I needed was a pantry door. I didn’t want any ordinary, run of the mill door, but one that had some character to it. After several months of searching for the perfect door, one day I stopped at a place called, “The Junk Shop”. It’s an Amish man’s home and shop that is very much like one of the places you would see on the show, American Pickers. I saw some pretty amazing things before he brought me to a pile of doors where I found the door I would use for this project. I was thrilled to finally find a door and tickled to death when he sold it to me for $5!!!
I also bought two other doors for $15. It was a good day for purchases but a great one knowing that we’d be able to start this kitchen project soon.
The door is old and needed some repair, but it has never been hung so the damage was minor and was taken care of with some filler and sanding.
To add more detail to our new pantry, we decided to cut down one of the other doors we bought to make a transom craftsman window above the door.
So now that we have the door and the basic idea of where we’re going with this project, I’m going to start painting while My Better Half gets the frame leveled and secured and we’ll keep you all updated as progress is made.

So fun! I think your house is gorgeous as is but you guys are always making it better.
Can you tell me what color stain you used on your table? It’s exactly the color I’m looking for to redo mine. Thank you.
